Tailored Library Interiors with Heritage Character

Francis Joinery was commissioned to supply and install a comprehensive package of bespoke joinery for the refurbishment of Linacre College’s public and private libraries, located within a historic building originally constructed as a chapel.

The works included the manufacture of new wall and island bookcases for the public library, crafted from high-quality oak veneered MDF with solid oak lippings for durability and a refined finish. All bookcase backings were finished in a contrasting green laminate, providing a subtle yet distinctive detail in keeping with the library setting. Complementing the joinery, we also produced bespoke tables made from solid oak with hardwearing Marmoleum tops, combining robustness with a natural, understated aesthetic.

Respecting History, Built for Today

For the private library, we created bespoke bookcases with lockable glazed doors, along with solid oak doors and door frames, providing both functionality and a sense of heritage quality appropriate to the space.

All elements were carefully finished to suit the historic character of the building, ensuring the new joinery complemented the original architecture, including the restored stained glass windows. Through thoughtful material selection and attention to detail, the completed works respect the building’s past while delivering practical, high-quality library spaces for modern use.
