Bespoke joinery for a modern learning space
Francis Joinery worked in collaboration with our construction division to deliver an extensive refurbishment of the Chestnuts building within Royal Holloway’s Egham campus, transforming the space into a modern teaching facility for the University’s Department of Health Studies.
As part of the project, we supplied and installed a full package of bespoke external joinery, including doors and windows crafted from high-quality sapele hardwood. All ironmongery was specified in a satin chrome finish, providing a clean, contemporary contrast to the natural timber. Complementing the building’s exterior, we also manufactured and installed window surrounds with vertical fins, produced from cedar to seamlessly match the existing cladding.
Internally, we delivered a range of bespoke joinery elements designed for both practicality and durability. This included custom cabinetry manufactured from birch ply with laminate finishes, as well as window bench seating that was crafted, upholstered, and installed to provide functional and comfortable study areas. Toilet cubicle doors and frames were also produced from sapele, ensuring consistency in material quality across the project.

Quality workmanship from start to finish
In addition, we enhanced the existing staircase with solid oak treads, introducing a refined, hardwearing feature that elevates the interior space.
All components were manufactured in our workshop and expertly installed on site, ensuring a high standard of finish throughout. The completed project combines robust materials, thoughtful detailing, and skilled craftsmanship to create a functional and contemporary learning environment within a historic campus setting.
